Elizabeth Akong


Elizabeth Akong is an accomplished healthcare professional with over 19 years of experience in nursing and case management. She began her career at Jamaica Hospital, where she honed her skills in a high-pressure environment as a nurse in a 400-bed trauma center. After 12 years on a medical-surgical unit, Elizabeth advanced her education by earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This opened the door to her role as a critical care nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, where she developed her professional and empathetic skills. Her passion for improving patient care led her to explore case management, eventually transitioning to a full-time position at Flushing Hospital.
Now serving as the Assistant Director of Case Management at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, Elizabeth is committed to guiding patients and their families through the healthcare continuum. She holds an Executive MBA with a healthcare concentration, which complements her extensive background in utilization management and discharge planning. Known for her calm demeanor and willingness to go the extra mile, Elizabeth thrives on generating innovative solutions to complex case management challenges. As a leader, her goal is to be an accessible resource for her team, empowering the next generation of fearless leaders in the nursing profession.
