Senator Kevin Parker
State Senator Kevin S. Parker, a lifelong resident of Brooklyn, has been representing the 21st Senatorial District since 2002. His district covers several diverse communities including Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Canarsie. With over 30 years of experience in the area, Senator Parker’s commitment to improving the quality of life for his constituents is rooted in his deep understanding of the neighborhood’s needs. He has held various leadership roles, including Special Assistant to former New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall and Project Manager for the New York State Urban Development Corporation, where he supported minority and women-owned businesses. His legislative career includes work on issues such as energy, telecommunications, and finance, where he currently serves as Chair of the Energy and Telecommunications Committee.
Beyond his political career, Senator Parker is actively involved in civic and educational leadership. He has served on community boards, chaired educational committees, and contributed to numerous community initiatives such as the New York Ready Emergency Preparedness Unit. As a professor of African American Studies and Political Science, Parker has taught at several CUNY and SUNY institutions, with a focus on fostering racial justice and diversity. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science from Penn State and a master’s in urban policy and management from The New School, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Political Science at CUNY’s Graduate Center. Through both his legislative and academic work, Senator Parker remains dedicated to addressing key issues facing Brooklyn’s residents.
